An historic church building nestled at the foot of Ingleborough is undergoing a major redevelopment.
During the winter a new kitchen area and toilet including disabled facilities will be constructed at St Oswald’s, Thornton in Lonsdale.
The provision of these essential facilities, not previously available, will enable the church building to be opened as a community venue early next year, serving not only Thornton in Lonsdale but also the hamlets of Westhouses, Masongill, Gale Green and Ireby.
St Oswald’s Church is most grateful to everyone locally who has supported their fundraising events in recent years.
A spokesman said the church is grateful for the award of a major grant and support in partnership by the European Agricultural Fund for Rural Development, Leader Yorkshire Dales Rural Development Programme for England and Defra – the Department for Environment Food and Rural Affairs.
