Fairtrade fashion hit the catwalk at Skipton Girls’ High School in the climax to a year of events organised by sixth form students.

The show was planned by members of the Year 13 Fairtrade Friends Committee and was a first of its kind.

With the help of geography teacher Dawn Brailsford, the Friends have been working to promote Fairtrade since the formation of the group in September 2011.

Models, featuring staff and students, stepped out in clothes provided by a variety of brands and the audience of nearly 200 guests was entertained by the school’s rock band.

The event – expected to become annual – raised more than £700, which will be used to help people in the developing world.

It is hoped the event’s success will also help Skipton Girls’ High School achieve the Fairtrade Schools Award, which acknowledges the shared ethos of students and teachers to improve conditions around the globe.
