Tree festival: The Methodist Church held its Christmas tree festival over the weekend, for which groups based in the building all decorated a tree to represent a Christmas story. Silsden Band played festive music and the refreshment hatch did a roaring trade all day. Santa was also kept busy in his grotto.

Winter’s Night: The Follow The Fleece Company presents the world premiere of In Silsden on a Winter’s Night at St James’s Church on Saturday at 7.30pm. The show features seasonal songs and tunes and there will be opportunities to join in and sing along. The show is linked with readings, recitations and remembrances of Christmases past that span seven centuries. Admission on the door costs £5.

Civic Society: The next meeting will take place in the Methodist Church tonight (Thursday), when Peter Greenwood will give a talk and demonstration on the Mystery of Magic. The talk starts at 7.30pm and will be followed by mince pies and Christmas cake at 8.30pm.

Christmas post: The Scouts’ Christmas post is starting up once more to deliver cards to Silsden and Airedale Hospital. Boxes are being placed in local shops, with special stamps available to buy.

Sports AGM: The sports club will hold its postponed annual general meeting on Tuesday.

Carol service: Churches Together in Silsden will hold a community carol service, accompanied by Hothfield Street School Choir, at Silsden Methodist Church on Wednesday at 2pm.

Coffee morning: Our Lady of Mount Carmel is holding its Christmas coffee morning in Carmel House on Saturday, from 9.30am to noon. The usual bottles, cake and raffle stalls will be running and refreshments will be served.
