A piano made in the Yorkshire Dales is ‘starring’ in a hit new West End musical.

Bolton Abbey-based Cavendish Pianos has provided a baby grand piano for Viva Forever!, which is running at the Piccadilly Theatre.

Blending the Spice Girls songs with the writing of Jennifer Saunders, Viva Forever! is a touching story of friendship in the face of fame and fortune.

“We were approached by the production company who had decided they wanted a British piano for their oh-so-British show,” said Cavendish Pianos managing director Adam Cox. “As the only UK piano manufacturer, we were the obvious choice!

“We were delighted and proud to be involved, but rather daunted by the deadline as dress rehearsals were due to start in a matter of weeks.

“We would usually be looking at a production time of months for an order like this, but we worked round the clock getting the Cavendish baby grand ready.”

In fact, the piano was shipped down the night before the press opening.

“I went down with the family (two very excited teenagers and one excited wife!) and we had front row seats. The show was fantastic and I’ve heard it’s sold out for months.

“The piano is quite a major feature – it’s great to see a Yorkshire-made piano take centre stage.”

Cavendish Pianos is run by Adam Cox and Charlie McEwan and was launched earlier this year at the European Music Fair: Frankfurt Music Messe. Its instruments are craft-made from locally-sourced materials using skills such as string-making, felt-making and cabinet-making.
