St Andrew’s: On Sunday there will be services of Holy Communion at 8.15am and 10am. The church’s annual meeting will follow the 10am service. Next Sunday, May 5, at 6pm there will be a service of thanksgiving for departed family and friends at which people will be able to light a candle in memory of loved ones.

Silver surfers: A computer class for the over-50s takes place in the lower hall at Farnhill Methodist Church on Monday at 2.30pm.

Village Pump: The over-50s group meets in the lower hall at Farnhill Methodist Church on Wednesday, from 2pm to 3.30pm.

Book Exchange: The free book exchange at Kildwick and Farnhill Institute will be held in the upstairs room from 10am to 12.30pm next Thursday, May 2, as the main hall is being used as a polling station.

History group: Isobel Stirk will give a talk on “Haworth at the time of the Brontes” to Farnhill and Kildwick History Group. It will meet at the institute on Friday, May 10, at 7.30pm. Entrance is £3 on the door, which includes tea/coffee and biscuits.

Parish meeting: Farnhill will hold its annual parish meeting on Tuesday, May 14, at 7.30pm in Kildwick and Farnhill Institute.

Parish council: No members of the public were present, but an email was received from Kate Fulton about the book exchange, which had four visitors at the opening session. She asked if the parish council could send out a flyer advertising the book exchange with the newsletter. The council agreed to do this. An email was received from a member of the public regarding an attempt to create a flower bed at the top of the Arbour. The council agreed to take a look when it met at the Arbour to see the results of the tree inspection. Another email was received regarding parking in the village. It appeared some people thought they had reserved parking outside their houses. The clerk is to reply, stating that the road was owned by North Yorkshire County Council and nobody had reserved parking outside their home unless they were disabled and had applied for permission. North Yorkshire county councillor Patrick Mulligan said BT’s project for rolling out superfast broadband was going ahead and 90 per cent of homes should be able to get superfast broadband by December 2014, with wi-fi systems available for the other ten per cent. Farnhill and Kildwick will be getting an Open Reach upgrade. People need to be aware that once the infrastructure is in place they have to apply to their service provider to opt in to the package. The council confirmed the annual parish meeting would be held on Tuesday, May 14. After considering a report by the chairman, the council resolved that donations for the institute should be decided on a case by case basis. The next meeting will take place in the institute on Tuesday, May 7, at 7.30pm.

Bingo night: Kildwick and Farnhill Institute will host a bingo night next Friday, May 3, at 7pm. Admission is £5
