Members of Airedale Hospital’s running group are flexing their muscles to join Silsden’s gala procession with a bed push to raise cash for Manorlands.

The Airedale Dodgers will be in fancy dress, and they will be joined by members of Airedale Hospital’s A&E team to help boost the fundraising total.

Last year the lively team raised around £1,500 through selling raffle tickets and cakes on a stall in the gala field. This year they hope to be supported by the local police and fire crew.

Silsden Gala takes place on Sunday and the procession, which starts at 1pm, ends with a funfair and a variety of stalls and refreshments in Silsden Park.

There will be fancy dress competitions (to take part meet at the assembly point on Howden Road at noon), a miniature garden competition, majorette displays, mini motorbikes and tug of war.

Carol Dodgson, an Airedale Dodger who helps to organise the bed push, said: “Two aims of the Airedale Dodgers are to provide social events for runners and to raise as much money as possible for Manorlands.

“I’d like to thank everyone who supports us – especially the Silsden Gala Committee.”

There will also be some gala fun in Cowling this weekend.

The village will hold its traditional gala on Saturday, starting at 11am. Attractions include a pet show and baby show in the morning, with a fancy dress procession at 1pm.

On the recreation field, there will be a fun fair, free face painting, a mobile petting farm, cream teas, bands and many stalls. For more information, visit cowlinggala.co.uk.
