A headteacher has mixed emotions about leaving after “seven very happy years” at a Barnoldswick primary school.

Headteacher Graeme Lucas is leaving Coates Lane Primary School to take up a position as a schools adviser with Lancashire County Council.

“I’ve had seven very happy years at Coates Lane and I’m leaving with mixed emotions,” said Mr Lucas. “I’m excited by the challenge of the new job, but sad to be leaving so many great people behind. It’s an incredible community in Barlick.”

Mr Lucas taught in Chorley and Lancaster before coming to Coates Lane as deputy head in 2005. He was appointed headteacher in April 2007.

Sarah White, currently deputy head at Coates Lane, will replace Mr Lucas in September.

“It’s been a really busy last few weeks, making sure the transition goes smoothly,” added Mr Lucas.

“The handover has gone really well and Sarah White is ready to take up the role.”

In his new role, Mr Lucas will work alongside a number of headteachers in 20 schools in the Ribble Valley, Rossendale and Burnley.
