Councillors and community groups have made a fact-finding visit to the Bradford-Council owned buildings in Wesley Place, Silsden.

They wanted to find out how much refurbishment work was needed to make it fit for use as a community facility.

Silsden Town Council recently offered to pay Bradford Council £1 each to buy the Wesley Place building and the adjoining library.

This would be an alternative to the council selling both buildings to raise £300,000 towards the cost of refurbishing the nearby town hall.

A town council spokesman said that Bradford Council would now be asked to put forward a realistic price for the Wesley Place buildings.

The spokesman said the visit was very informative and gave councillors and other residents an idea of the state of the buildings.

He said: “Wesley Place itself is in relatively poor condition. There are cracks in the wall and floor and roof. The library is in good condition.

“This isn't about taking on two buildings that are fit for purpose, one has a substantial backlog of maintenance.

“We'll be having discussions with potential funders.”
