Women’s Institute: On Thursday, the ladies of High Bentham Wl met in the lower hall of the town hall for the annual bingo night. Surprisingly, one table of three ladies won five times. An excellent buffet was served after the bingo, provided by all the members. The competition for an arrangement of flowers in an egg cup was won by Sheila Percy. At the business meeting, arrangements were made for a forthcoming trip to The Grand Theatre in Lancaster to see Grease in September.

Coffee morning: A coffee morning was held in the town hall on Saturday in aid of the local branch of the NSPCC. There was a variety of stalls and the committee would like to thank everyone involved.

Church exhibition: St John the Baptist Church, Low Bentham, is holding an exhibition of documents and photographs relating to the church, Low Bentham School and life in Low Bentham over the years. The exhibition is open daily from 10am to 3pm, except Sunday when it will be open after services. There is a car park and donations are for the organ restoration fund Book swap: A book swap will be held at the Victoria Institute on Saturday, from 10am to noon.

Footpath group: Bentham Footpath Group will enjoy a 10-and-a-half mile walk at Harden Fell on Saturday. It will be led by David and Sheila Longton and walkers should meet at Lairgill at 9.30am.

MS coffee: The coffee morning in the town hall on Saturday will be in aid of MS Society. It starts at 10am.

Street market: Low Bentham Street Market will be held on Monday, August 26, from 10am to 4pm.

Bentham Show: Bentham Show takes place on Saturday, September 7. Entries are taken on the day for the dog and pet classes, but the deadline for cattle, sheep, handicrafts and horticulture entries is Monday, August 26.
