Coffee morning: The next fundraising event for St Michael and All Angels Parish Church in Linton will be a coffee morning on Saturday, arranged by the Friends of St Michael’s.

Whist: The next whist drive in Halton Gill Reading Room will be held on Wednesday, August 14, from 2pm. All levels are welcome, with instructions given. Further details are available from Brett or Marilyn on 01756 770256.

Hall committee: A new management committee is in place at Amerdale Hall, Arncliffe, following the AGM. Dave Charnley was elected chairman and Hannah Whitaker as secretary.

Fete: The next event in Littondale is the annual fete on The Green at Arncliffe on Saturday. Donations for the raffle, tombola, white elephant and book stalls would be welcome, and cakes or scones or help on the day appreciated. Contact Ruth on 770293 or Hannah on 770498 if you can help. There will be a live band all day, plus a Great British Fancy Dress competition, strongman challenge and tug ‘o’ war. This year there is a new competition, the Inter Parish Display with a Best of British theme. Each display must include a piece of floral art, needlework, photography, wool work or felting, cake decoration a painting or drawing, three different items of Littondale garden produce, four homemade scones and (with age stated) an example of handwriting of a poem by Jane Austen entitled This Little Bag.

Women’s Institute: Phil and Pat Carrol were the speakers at last month’s meeting of Kettlewell WI. They are volunteers with the national park authority and are working on a survey recording details of field barns in the parish of Kettlewell and Starbotton. They showed slides and talked about the many varied and interesting ancient barns in the parish.

School news: The Eco Warriors of Kettlewell Primary School (EWOKS) thank everyone who has entered their competitions in the newsletters they have produced. The next issue will be delivered shortly.

Tea party: A charity tea party held at Zarina’s Cafe in Kettlewell raised £114.70.

Scarecrows: Kettlewell Scarecrow Festival starts on Saturday and runs until Sunday, August 18. This year’s themes are children’s books and zodiac signs.

Parish council: Buckden Parish Council will meet in the village institute on Monday at 8pm.

Gala: Buckden Village Institute Committee thanks everyone who helped to make the gala such a success. A fantastic turnout of people, a variety of new events and activities plus some sunshine helped to raise £3,300 for the village institute.

Horticultural show: Kettlewell and District Horticultural Society’s annual show will be held on Sunday, August 25, in Kettlewell Village Hall from 2pm to 4.30pm. There is a wide range of classes for gardeners as well as handicraft experts, photographers and bakers. This year there will also be open classes for those who may be visiting the area and wish to participate. The schedule is available in The Village Store.

Church wardens: Throughout August, the church wardens at St Michael & All Angels Parish Church, Hubberhome, are fundraising for the upkeep and maintenance of the churchyards. The wardens are asking those who use the churchyards, have family resting places there or who appreciate their peace and beauty to support the appeal. The wardens also thank all those who supported the recent Festival of the Fleece. The event raised a total of £1,271 for church funds.

Support group: The Wharfedale Support Group for Manorlands Hospice will be having their usual stall at Kilnsey Show. Items for the tombola will be gladly received. Contact Catherine on 760202 or June on 753139.

Boundary walk: Vicar of the Upper Wharfedale Benefice, the Rev Peter Yorkstone, thanks all those who encouraged him on the Benefice Boundary Walk. “There is a great sense of satisfaction in having completed this project and having enjoyed the variety of scenery, terrain and wildlife encountered along the way,” he said. He raised more than £800 to be shared between the parishes of the Benefice.

Plaque: The gravestone for Sister Margaret Bunnett MBE has been put up in St Mary’s churchyard in Kettlewell. Clifford Lambert thanks all those who contributed to the cost of the plaque. Sister Bunnett is the only person from Kettlewell who has been awarded an MBE for services to the community.

Tributes: Martin and Graeme Hall and family would like to thank friends, neighbours and relatives for their support following the recent deaths of their parents, Charlie and Thelma. More than £1,000 was raised for the Yorkshire Air Ambulance as a result of donations give in St Mary’s Church, Conistone-with-Kilnsey.
