West Craven residents are gearing up for this year’s Ride With Brad event on Sunday.

Participants will get the chance to ride alongside last year’s Tour de France winner, Sir Bradley Wiggins.

Starting and finishing in Barnoldswick, there are three distances on offer to participants, 100km, 160km or the newly added 50km route.

The routes have been carefully planned to ensure they take in Sir Bradley’s favourite training roads as well as Lancashire’s most outstanding natural beauty spots.

Commenting on the 2012 event, Sir Bradley said: “It was a great event last time, riding round this beautiful area where I train when at home and meeting so many riders and spectators.

“We want to keep the event growing and becoming the best there is.

“So I urge everyone to put August 11th in their diary and crack on with their training.”

And this year, participating cyclists will also get the chance to ride alongside a trio of Olympic champions – Laura Trott, Dani King and Joanna Rowsell – who now ride for Wiggle-Honda.

The three cyclists were at the heart of the British success at last summer’s Olympic Games.

They stormed to a gold medal in a world record time in the Women’s Team Pursuit, with Laura adding a further gold in the Women’s Omnium. At last year’s Ride With Brad, Sir Bradley spoke about the need for a new professional women’s team.

Shortly after, plans for Wiggle-Honda were announced.

Now in its second year, Ride With Brad will also feature fun and activities for all the family to take part in. This will include cycle activities as well as featuring a wide range of other sports activities including a fun run, rugby tasters and fencing.

Money raised from the event will go towards the Bradley Wiggins Foundation, a charity which aims to promote participation in sport and to provide support to local individuals, groups and communities.

Entry for the 160km and 100km routes costs £40 and the 50km route costs £35.
