Police are appealing for witnesses after an elderly woman broke her leg in an incident in Skipton.

At around 12.15pm on Friday, August 2, a silver Toyota Avensis taxi dropped an elderly man and a woman off outside Bizzie Lizzie’s Fish and Chip Shop on Swadford Street. As they got out of the cab, the man fell onto the pavement.

An 83-year-old local woman who was passing stopped to help the man but fell as she went to his aid and suffered a broken leg. She was taken to Airedale Hospital for treatment.

Officers are trying to establish the exact circumstances of the incident and are urging any witnesses to come forward.

It is believed that the elderly couple who were dropped off in the taxi had been collected from Skipton train station and they are urged to come forward and assist the police with their inquiries.
