Record entries were enjoyed in three sections at Giggleswick Horticultural Society’s 72nd annual show.

Staged in the Giggleswick Junior School Pavilion, the event was opened by Settle mayor Joe Lord and included record-breaking classes in culinary, photography and handicrafts.

Secretary Ruth Dugdale said: “There was a really happy atmosphere and the entries were bright and colourful. Everything was really, really good.”

It proved a good day for Frances Sample who won four trophies – the Dut Cup for the best vegetable, fruit or flower, the Marsden Cup for the most floral art points, the Rowe Cup for the best floral art and the Catkins voucher for the best driftwood arrangement.

There were three trophies apiece for Geoff Knights and R Procter.

Mr Knights’ spoils included the Wright Cup for the most vegetable points, the Saffrey Cup for the best tomatoes and the Booth Memorial Cup for most points in the vegetable, fruit and flower sections while Mr Procter took home the Major Batty Trophy for the best potatoes, the David Gardener Voucher for the best peas and the award for the best fruit.
