Rescuers have saved a dog that was near to death on Buckden Pike.
A walker first spotted the dog near the Polish War memorial on Saturday afternoon and, after thinking about it overnight, raised the alarm the following morning.
Eight members of the Grassington-based Upper Wharfedale Fell Rescue Association turned out in appalling conditions and found the dog sheltering by a wall.
It looked very cold and thin and is believed to have been there for a few days.
“It is lucky to be alive,” said a UWFRA spokesman.
The team wrapped the dog up and stretchered it back to their vehicle. After arriving back at base, it was taken into care where it was found to have a broken leg.
A full story will appear in Thursday’s Craven Herald.
