Youngsters at Boyle & Petyt School at Beamsley have been helping turn a green field into a haven for wild flowers, thanks to the Bolton Abbey estate and the Yorkshire Dales Millennium Trust.
They “plug-planted” about 100 ox-eye daisies on an area of land opposite the Cavendish Pavilion and across the river Wharfe.
Helping them was Sarah Brewer, the trust’s fund raiser and marketing officer, who told the children that the plant was typical of the wild flowers found in this area.
“The plan is to add seeds in the spring and introduce more flowers of different varieties to develop a really pretty area which will encourage wildlife.”
The estate was a big supporter of the trust and had worked closely with them in the past in planting new woodland.
