A Skipton based manufacturer of springs and wireforms for a multitude of markets is taking on the world.

John Binns and Son (Springs) Ltd in the Airedale Business Centre, Keighley Road, has invested in both new machinery and three new members of staff as it competes in the world market.

It has invested in computer controlled spring and wireform machines, which use cameras and lasers to ensure maximum accuracy and efficiency, and has recently taken on three new apprentices, aged between 16 and 18.

It has also offered a placement to a design engineering student from Nottingham Trent University.

“Even at the depths of the recent recession, we have looked to invest in the latest spring making machinery as well as our staff,” said sales director David Whitfield.

“We now have a modern manufacturing facility, which allows us to compete successfully with other spring suppliers both in the UK and worldwide.”

The company, which was launched in 1895 and now employs 20 people, has recently seen significant improvement in sales and believes there is huge potential for further growth.

“We are delighted to be taking on these three new apprentices and hope they can play a big part in the company’s future success. They have all certainly started off on the right foot,” added Mr Whitfield.

“Because we supply a wide range of industries, we can be a good bellwether for the economy as a whole, so hopefully we will be able to report more good news stories in the near future.”
