Key stage three pupils at West Craven High Technology College, Barnoldswick, were challenged to write about a key moment in history.
Their efforts were judged by geography teacher Claire Wilson and history teacher Lianne Abram and first prize of a £15 WH Smith voucher went to Samuel Bond who wrote about the Wars of the Roses.
Runner-up, with a £10 voucher, was Tamsin Williams whose subject was the Pendle Witches, and in third place, with a £5 voucher, was Skye Barnes who recalled the first man on the moon.
