Calendar of Wharfedale views in memory of mum
10:00am Monday 16th December 2013 in News
A woman has created a fundraising calendar packed with images of the Wharfedale countryside her “amazing” mum adored.
Anne Lofthouse lost her mother Barbara to the auto-immune disease Myasthenia Gravis in 2010.
Determined to keep her memory alive, Anne hit upon the idea of producing a calendar featuring views her mother would have seen from Gildersber Farm, in Addingham Moorside – where she had lived and worked since 1972.
Now, with help from a local printer, the finished product has gone on sale – with proceeds going to the Myasthenia Gravis Association (MGA).
Anne, 39, from Otley, said it was her mother’s passion for photography that drove her on.
“My true inspiration was my mum, as she never lost sight of where she lived,” said Anne, who works at Leeds Bradford Airport. “After she passed away in May 2010, I wanted to keep her memory alive and wanted people to see what she saw every day.
“Mum was always taking pictures and when she became ill she used to say ‘when you go out take some pictures’. We’d tell her that we took some the other day, but all mum said then was ‘it changes every day’, so we just did as we were told.
“I wanted the pictures to be of, on and around the farm which is where she lived and always worked very hard, while also looking after four children, and dad.
“The pictures were taken by mum and us, trying to show different tasks on the farm, the seasons and, along the way, raising money and awareness of MGA to help find a cure.”
The calendars, which Anne hopes people will consider for Christmas presents, cost £7. Call 07955 255206 or send a cheque, including postage costs of £1.20, made payable to A Lofthouse to: A Lofthouse, 68 The Crossways, Otley, LS21 2AR. Please include a return address.
