Gisburn Christmas Market draws the shoppers
8:00am Friday 27th December 2013 in News
Shoppers and traders got into the festive spirit at Gisburn Christmas Market.
The event – held at the village’s Festival Hall – offered a great range of local produce, including a selection of game from West Marton, and rare breed pork from Rimington as well as hand-made treats and gifts for Christmas and hot food from Paythorne-based company Que Fresco.
The Women’s Institute ran a cafe, tombola and raffle, and entertainment was provided by local band Silent Laughter, made up of Clitheroe Grammar School girls Maddie Paige, Anna Marshall, Julia Johnstone and Lucy Yates.
Barnoldswick-based stove manufacturers ESSE sponsored the event and brought in one of its electric range stoves on which roast turkey and chocolate brownies were cooked.
Hall secretary David Waters said: “This was the first market we have organised so we were all really excited about it. It was a lot of hard work but the traders put on some fantastic displays and we had a good footfall of customers throughout the day. I just want to thank everyone who helped make the market a great success.”
He added:”Community events like this really bring people together and also help to raise money for the upkeep of the village hall. We will be holding a monthly Farmers’ Market at the Festival Hall every second Saturday of the month starting on April 12 and many of the producers and customers have already said how much they are looking forward to it.”
