Dales lady Phyllis Dean, of Toft House Farm, Threshfield, has died at the age of 95.
Born in Skyreholme in 1918, she was the youngest daughter of Benjamin and Laura Lumb, of Thomas Lumb, paper manufacturers.
Her career in nursing in Beverley was cut short due to family commitments and she returned to run the house. Married to Tant Dean for 73 years, they expanded the farm and raised their family, Catherine, Patricia and Anthony.
She loved entertaining and travel. She had great caring qualities and excelled in breadmaking, baking, needlework and tapestry. She also tended her beloved garden.
She was a keen supporter of Kilnsey Show and lifelong member of Threshfield Institute.
For the past year, Phyllis had been cared for at Gills Top, Grassington, and Threshfield Court, Threshfield.
She is survived by her daughter Patricia, eight grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
