With bills from Christmas coming in, Skipton’s Christians Against Poverty Centre is preparing for a dramatic increase in those seeking financial advice.

Manager Steve Hulbert said: “It is vital people know that CAP is a credible option to dealing with their debt problems.

“I don’t want people to ignore financial difficulties or even worse turn to expensive money-lending options.

“CAP is a national charity which is totally free of charge but has all the resources required to tackle debt problems.”

To help cover its running costs, the centre – based at Skipton Baptist Church – will hold a family Burns Night ceilidh at the church on Saturday.

Mr Hulbert added: “Our local centre adds a vital ingredient – regular and personal contact with our clients through our team of befrienders.

“This means people experiencing financial difficulties will be supported through their entire journey to becoming debt-free, rather than left to manage on their own.”

To book an appointment, call freephone 0800 328 0006 or, from a mobile, 01274 760839. The church also runs CAP money workshops, which are DVD-based and teach people budgeting skills.

The next starts on Thursday, February 27, at 7.30pm and will be held at the Children’s Centre in Brougham Street, Skipton.
