Richard Thornton C of E School governors’ consultation with residents, the parish council is pleased to note the governors are no longer pursuing action to close the school. However, a further meeting of North Yorkshire County Council on February 18 will decide if a further consultation about closure will be embarked upon. The governors and parish council are grateful to everyone who has worked so hard and look forward to continuing community support in their efforts to ensure the school remains open. A planning application for the proposed new sports pavilion will be submitted shortly, in support of the funding applications that have been made or are about to be made for this project. The parish council is pleased to note there is an increase in groups using the recreation field for sporting activities and residents wishing to join in the activities should look out for notices at the Village Shop or on the parish council noticeboard. Mothers Union: Burton and Thornton-in-Lonsdale Mothers' Union will have a table at All Saints' Spring Clean Table Sale being held in the village hall next Saturday, February 15 from 10am to noon. A variety of items will be on sale, together with coffee/tea and cakes.

Women’s Institute: Burton-in-Lonsdale WI will meet in the village hall tonight at 7.30pm, when the speaker will be Inspector Sheralee Duckworth on ‘Changing roles of female police officers’. Visitors welcome for an admission fee of £2.50, which includes tea/coffee and biscuits.
