Parish council: A minute’s silence was held as a mark of respect for Dr Farrer, who passed away on New Year’s Day. The chairman, Colin Price, paid tribute to Dr Farrer, in particular the interest and support he gave to the parish council. If you are keen to support the interests of the community in Clapham, Newby and Keasden, you may wish to consider becoming a parish councillor. Elections will take place on May 22. For more information, contact the parish clerk. After a survey of broadband speeds, residents are considering how to improve the service locally. The parish council was delighted that the Forest of Bowland Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB) has allocated £1,500 for caretaker maintenance work. A donation will be made to the Citizen’s Advice Bureau in Settle to support its work. An information panel will be installed next to the Millennium Stone to interpret the story told in its carvings. The council meets on the fourth Tuesday of each month (except December when it is the third Tuesday) in the village hall at 7.30pm. For more information, contact clerk Gillian Muir at claphamclerk@btinternet.com or 015242 51775.

Coffee morning: There will be a coffee morning in Clapham Village Hall between 10am and noon on Wednesday, February 19. It will raise funds for Take Heart – the Yorkshire heart centre.
