Young farmers: Members met at The Richard Tottie Memorial Hall for an evening of crafts. The judge was Alison Thwaite, of Airton. The results were: item made from recyclable material – 1 Tom Long, 2 Angus Walton; Tour De France memorabilia – 1 Gemma Darwin, 2 Georgina Pinder, 3 Thomas Darwin; edible picture – 1 Kate Beresford, 2 Megan Walton. A business meeting followed, with the vote of thanks given by vice-chairman Mathew Wallbank. On Saturday, Coniston Cold YFC hosted the Settle District Young Farmers hedging and walling competition. The indoor events, which included an item made from recyclable material, an edible picture and an item of Tour De France memorabilia, were held at The Richard Tottie Memorial Hall, while the hedging and walling event was held at Newfield Grange by kind permission of Mr and Mrs Simon Foster. The judges were Roger Charnley, Roger Gibson, Wendy Phillip, Francis Sample and Gordon Beresford. Tea and sandwiches were followed by the presentation of prizes by district president Janet Bolland and Coniston chairman Cameron Walton. The results were – 1 Coniston, 2 Lawkland, 3 Rathmell, 4 Burton. A vote of thanks was given by Mathew Wallbank. Last Tuesday, members met for a talk by runner Sam Boatwright. Sam had the audience enthralled with the story of his epic run round the British Isles in 2012. A vote of thanks was given by Tom Saxby and a business meeting followed with vice chairman Mathew Wallbank in the chair.
