Clara Bailey – who celebrated her 100th birthday in November – has died.

Mrs Bailey, who was a resident of Currergate Nursing Home, Steeton, was born in Ayrshire, the youngest of nine children.

During World War Two, she married soldier Thomas Bailey – a member of the Duke of Wellington TA regiment stationed in Ayrshire – and they moved to Keighley after the war.

Mr Bailey worked as an iron moulder in the town. He died in 1976.

Once all their children were in school, Mrs Bailey worked in catering and, on her retirement, began dressmaking classes at Keighley College.

She continued until she was 93.

Mrs Bailey – who once walked everywhere – had ten grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.

A funeral service will be held at St Anne’s Church, North Street, Keighley next Friday, February 28, at 12.30pm.
