Year Six pupils at Rathmell Primary School held a day in aid of Guide Dogs for the Blind.

It was organised by the pupils and raised more than £200.

Ethan Cottam, one of the young organisers, said: “We had cakes, a lucky dip and a second-hand stall, as well as stalls selling toys and books, tea and coffee, a quiz, a chocolate tombola and a treasure hunt.

“The best bit was running your own stall.” Head teacher Chris Boxall said: “We are really proud of the children.

“They decided on the charity and then took ownership of the whole event. They did the publicity and also arranged for someone from Guide Dogs for the Blind to come along and give a talk so they knew what the charity was about.”

It was attended by parents and the wider community.
