Youngsters at Skipton’s Greatwood School are parrying with a new sport.
Fourteen year five children have embarked on a six-week fencing course – and, so far, they are loving it.
“They are really into it,” said PE co-ordinator Thomas Finch. “It is something so different. They may have seen fencing on the television or at the Olympics, but have never tried it before.
“They are building up their skills so they can take part in matches. I think they also enjoy that hint of danger.”
At the end of six weeks, the children will receive certificates and the most improved fencer will be named.
“We will also review the course and see whether it can become a more permanent club,” said Mr Finch.
