Grassington Festival has revealed the full-line up for this year’s event – and, as usual, there is a mix of high profile and community artistes.

Two-week extravaganza gets off to roaring start on Friday, June 13, with a town hall gig by 60s band The Troggs and the Funkin’ Massive Party Band.

The hall will host other must-see events, including a premiere of local filmmaker Geoff Kerr’s film The Settlement, Ade Edmondson and The Bad Shepherds, Al Wood’s Great “Little” Big Band and Bugalu Foundation with DJ Lubi.

And taking centre stage in the festival marquee will be Bill Wyman and The Rhythm Kings and comedian Omid Djalili (pictured below).

Other marquee acts already announced include Only Men Aloud with special guest Laura Wright, Boomtown Rats, and the now infamous Last Night Party with Heather Small.

The 2014 festival theme is words, messages, slogans and sayings. Sitting at the core of this is WordLab: Think While You Ink – led by artist printmaker Helen Peyton – which will encourage everyone to get inky and use the Victorian letterpress.

This year’s key speakers include journalist Kate Adie and adventurer Sean Conway and, continuing the festival’s partnership with Settle’s Victoria Hall, there will be an evening with professional actress Helen Fraser at the North Craven venue.

Classical music is not forgotten, with a gala concert at the town hall featuring Nicholas Daniel and the Carducci String Quartet, Retorica – a violin duo – at St Margaret Clitherow Church, Threshfield, Arioso’s Naples to Vienna at Scargill House, Kettlewell and Snake Strings in St Wilfrid’s Church, Burnsall.

The latter will also host a performance of The Messiah with a newly-formed community choir – the product of an all-afternoon workshop.

The Food Festival also returns with a celebration of Yorkshire food, which will showcase stallholders from the Northern Dales Farmers Market alongside local suppliers including Grassington’s Relish, Kilnsey Park Estate, Chris Wildman, of Malham’s Town End Farm Shop, Andy Swinscoe, of Courtyard Dairy, Settle and Amaali Kashmiri food in Skipton.

There will also be demonstrations from John Rudden, of Grassington House Hotel, Grassington, and celebrity chef Stephanie Moon.

The Festival Saturdays will be filled with free live music and street theatre in the all-weather haven of Festival Square.

Also, as part of the Tour de France’s Yorkshire Festival 2014, Grassington will welcome The Tour of Infinite Possibility with Hope and Social, Wish You Were Here, CheerSing, Le Grand Voyage, Tour De Cinema, and Bicycle with Barefoot.
