CRAVEN Olympian Emma Lonsdale officially opened the third Langcliffe Show.

Emma, who lives in the village and competed in the Sochi Games, also presented prizes at the event, which was held in the village institute and St John the Evangelist's Church.

Secretary Ian Johnson said he was delighted by how the show had grown over the past three years.

He said: "Everyone involved deserves congratulations. The number and quality of the exhibits were amazing. All the stewards work very hard before the day, and during it. It was especially pleasing to welcome a few Langcliffe newcomers to the team. It was a great day for everyone."

Exhibitors ranged from two to 92-year-old retired teacher Dorothy Hibbert, who was staying with resident and former pupil Helen Jarvis.

The children's cup was won by six-year-old George Eccleston, who had planned and practised for weeks. His robot, made from recycled materials, was his favourite entry, but his cauliflower sheep was a close second!

Other prizewinners were: culinary - Veronica Meredith; preserves - Kate Croll; produce - David Croll; fruit - David Wiggins; floral and door hanging - Barbara Johnson; art - Shelly Woolley, Christine Taylor and Mavis Halligan; handicrafts - Avril Richards; photography - Jan Taylor;

most points in show Ian Johnson.

The day ended with an after show supper which was enjoyed by more than 60 people.
