POLICE lay in wait for a driver after receiving a tip-off she had been drinking, Skipton magistrates heard.

Karen Midgley, 33, was followed by an officer for half a mile from Kildwick to Cross Hills where he stopped and breathalysed her, the court was told on Friday.

She was taken to the police station where she was found to have 66 microgrammes of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath.The legal limit is 35.

Midgley, who admitted drink-driving on August 15, had stopped off at the White Lion Pub in Kildwick after finishing work, and had drunk a couple of glasses of wine, the court was told.

In her written statement, read out in court, she said she sincerely apologised for her actions and had been through a difficult time, including the loss of her job and the breakdown of her relationship.

Midgley, of Hazel Grove Road, Sutton-in-Craven, was banned from driving for 18 months and fined £110, with costs of £85 and a victims surcharge of £20. If she completes a drink drivers rehabilitation course, her ban will be reduced by 25 per cent.
