THE High Sheriff of North Yorkshire, Tom Ramsden, and his wife, Jane, went on a whistle-stop tour of Craven.

Hosted by the chairman of Craven District Council, Cllr Linda Brockbank, the visit started with a tour of the Broughton Hall Estate to look at how the estate had developed over the years, bringing employment to a rural area.

The next stop was Pioneer Projects in Bentham, which is a community-based arts and health charity.

The party also paid visits to Bentham Community Library and to Craven Museum & Gallery in Skipton, where the High Sheriff viewed The Shakespeare First Folio.

Mr Ramsden said: "What a spectacular day we had. Broughton and Pioneer Projects were the highlights, but both the library in Bentham and the museum in Skipton painted a good picture of community involvement in the area and that sense of identity that is so important to an understanding about where you live."
