VILLAGERS are stepping up their campaign to add some sparkle to their community this Christmas.
Steeton and Eastburn residents are staging a coffee morning to raise funds towards providing trees and lights in the neighbouring villages.
They launched their effort in the wake of concerns over last year's seasonal showing, where there were just a few festive bulbs on a tree beside Steeton Hub.
"Our aim is to have two Christmas trees and lights and then build on that in the future," said resident Janet Pickles.
"We had a well-attended meeting last week and things are progressing."
The estimated cost of getting the trees and lights established is about £2,000.
Pledges of £100 each have been made by Mrs Pickles' Steeton-based company, RA Medical Services Ltd, and the Goat's Head pub.
The coffee morning is being held at Steeton Hall on November 15, from 10am to noon.
It will include a cake stall and raffle and children's activities, such as decorating biscuits and a bauble-decorating competition.
Admission will be £2, including tea and biscuits. Children will be admitted free.
