FORMER world champion and Olympic silver medallist, Steve Cram, spent an afternoon at Broughton Hall, motivating business professionals in the manufacturing industry as part of his role as ambassador for Yorkshire Bank.

Steve gave a motivational talk to around 35 manufacturing professionals at the stately home, where he talked about the parallels between sport and business before answering questions from guests.

The event was hosted by Yorkshire Bank, Armstrong Watson Accountants and Clarion Solicitors and provided the opportunity for the bank to give business advice while allowing guests the chance to network and meet one of Britain’s legendary athletes.

Andy Davidson, head of Yorkshire Bank’s business and private banking centre in West Yorkshire, said: “It was a real honour to welcome a distinguished sporting figure like Steve Cram to speak to our business community.

“Steve has gained a wealth of experience during his career, first as a top athlete then commentator and businessman, and he has passed some of that onto local business figures who met with him.”

Dave Clarkson, business development director at Armstrong Watson, added: “The insight Steve shared with us on preparing to be the best was incredibly valuable information which I will be passing on to our own team to help improve their individual performances.”

Steve, who also won gold in the 800m and 1500m at the 1986 Edinburgh Commonwealth Games recounted experiences from his long career as an athlete, and passed on his tips to the business community on setting and attaining goals.

Stephen Crow, business development manager at Clarion Solicitors, said: “Steve adeptly demonstrated how the winning behaviours he developed on the track are directly applicable to world of manufacturing business.”
