SKIPTON Library will host Craven Remembers - a commemorative event on what life was like in Craven during the early months of the First World War.

Groups from across Craven will stage an exhibition on the how the war affected life in the towns and villages, family history experts will be on hand to help people trace their First World War ancestors and representatives from the Heritage Lottery Fund will be there to advise on funding support.

There will be also information about the First World War resources available at the library as well as talks by local historians.

Dr Bill Smith, of the Skipton Academy, who will speak Tunstill’s Men, Professor Alison Fell, from the University of Leeds' Legacies of War project, who will talk about the Belgian refugees, and former Craven Herald and Pioneer editor, Ian Lockwood, will look at Skipton and the Home Front. The event is free, but talks are £2 each.

The library is also asking people to bring along First World War memorabilia for a pop-up museum in the library. There will also be exhibits on show from Skipton's Craven Museum and Gallery and The Folly at Settle.

The event will take place on Tuesday - the Armistice Day - from 10am to 3pm and is part of the Lottery-funded Craven and the First World War project.
