ADDINGHAM Civic Society decided to present the team behind The Tour Addingham 2014 with a civic pride award at its autumn fair.

The celebrations around the visit of the Tour de France in July were a hugely successful two days, said the society. The crowds were 'amazing' as they gathered to watch 200 of the best cyclists in the world come up Main Street.

The award was presented by Kris Hopkins MP at the Civic Society's autumn fair.

The Keighley constituency MP said: "Whilst Addingham was thrilled to be given the opportunity to host the Tour on successive days, the downside was that this required double the amount of work.

"But the Addingham Tour Committee, with the full backing of residents, rolled their sleeves up and delivered not only for the village but for Yorkshire. As the local MP, I was hugely proud of what was achieved, and it was an honour to present a well-deserved Civic Pride award to the Addingham Tour Committee. Their contribution shall never be forgotten by the entire local community."

Civic Society chairman Jim Robinson said the society was delighted to have supported the Tour Committee, but it was Richard Hunter Rowe and his remarkable team who did all the work.

Mr Hunter Rowe said his committee was honoured to receive the award.
