A SILSDEN schoolgirl has said a big "thank you" to the hospital which treated her mum for breast cancer, by raising more than £1,000.

Inventive 10-year-old Eleanor Cheshire has raised the money over the last four years - with a little help from brother Morgan, seven - after their mum Louise was diagnosed with the illness.

The Hothfield Junior School pupil started her fundraising by hosting a Virgin Vie party for her mum's friends and raised around £200.

The youngster then made pink biscuits and sold them at school.

Next, she hosted a pink breakfast, which included pink grapefruit, porridge and bacon butties, which raised more than £300.

She also organised a line dancing evening and Eleanor, along with her family, raised more money by taking part in two Race 4 Life events.

The youngster explained: "I decided to raise money because I didn't want as many children to go through what I have been through.

"I am very proud about the money I have raised and I am happy my mum is better."

Louise, who works as a physiotherapist at Airedale Hospital, Steeton, and is currently in remission, couldn't be more proud of her daughter.

She said: "She really does deserve recognition for all the work she has done. She organises the events herself and even goes round all the local businesses in Silsden every year for raffle prizes. They know her now and she always comes back with chocolates, vouchers and all sorts of great prizes.

Each time, Eleanor hands over the money to consultant surgeon Ian Hutchinson as a thank you for looking after her mum.

Mr Hutchinson told the Herald: "We are very grateful to Ellie.

"She works very hard every year to raise money and I am always amazed at how ingenious the fundraising ideas are."
