CRAVEN district councillor Peter Madeley is calling for the £10,000 grant given to Skipton Food Bank to be preserved.

His comments come after he visit the food bank, which is based at Skipton Baptist Church and delivers food parcels across much of Craven.

Cllr Madeley said: “Talking with Lucy Irren, the food bank manager, you begin to realise the true impact of the changes to the social security benefits system. We are not talking about giving goodies to scroungers and fiddlers, this service is a lifeline to many individuals and families across Craven.

“I am working with Craven District Council to ensure that the annual £10,000 given to the food bank is preserved in the next round of cuts to hit the council.

"I would also urge all residents of Craven to visit the Skipton Food Bank website at skiptonfoodbank.org to see what food items are urgently needed by the Food Bank and to find out how to make a donation.”
