A GROUP of mums has been given £1,230 by Skipton Rotary Club towards their long-term goal of transforming their village playground. The money will buy two benches.

The campaign group, set up 12 months ago, is aiming to raise £86,000 to pay for the work in Gargrave and is also seeking more "substantial" funding.

Sarah Pawson, one of the organisers, said: "We are amazed and thrilled by Rotary's generosity. They raised the money with a car park scheme they have with Skipton Building Society, where all the funds go back into the community."

She said Rotary's David Goldie had commented how much they liked the project and wished them much luck in reaching their goal.

Sarah added: "We hope eventually to place plaques on the benches saying who donated them and to plant around them with sensory type plants which will make sitting even more relaxing."
