JERRY Croft, in Skipton, is due to be closed temporarily on Monday evening for the removal of a street lamp.

The lamp, which is being removed by Northern Powergrid, is part of improvement work taking place at the town hall.

It will be replaced by new external lighting.

Pedestrians will still have access to Jerry Croft, which will be closed from 5pm to 11pm, and cars will be diverted via Newmarket Street.

A council spokesman said: "The closure has been arranged for the evening period so that local businesses will have minimal disruption."

Further work involving the temporary closure of Jerry Croft for a week to HGVs and coaches is planned for March.

It will remain open to pedestrians and cars.

"This will enable a safe working space for contractors to clad the side of the new entrance ramp," said the spokesman.

"A temporary diversion for HGV and coaches will be put in place diverting them onto the High Street, down Newmarket Street and to enter the car park by the rear entrance."
