A "REAL" nappy roadshow comes to Skipton next week.

The event, in celebration of Real Nappy Week, will be held at Skipton Library between 1pm and 4pm next Friday, March 16.

The York and North Yorkshire Waste Partnership is urging parents to check out the latest designs and concepts in reusable nappies, which its says offer an attractive alternative to disposables and come in ultra modern designs that are easy to use.

Each baby uses approximately 4,500 disposable nappies and experts estimate they take between 300 and 500 years to rot away in landfill. In North Yorkshire, they account for two per cent of all landfilled waste.

Visitors to the roadshow will have the chance to take advantage of a cash incentive.

Parents can claim £30 back on real nappy purchases of £50 or more, so long as their baby was born after April 1 2006, they live in North Yorkshire and can provide receipts for their purchases.

Partnership chairman County Coun Clare Wood said: "Real nappies not only help the environment by reducing the amount of waste going to landfill, but they are also kind to a baby's skin as they don't contain the gels and chemicals that disposables have.

"They're also kinder on the pocket, with potential savings of up to £300 with your first child and even more for following children."

Real Nappy Week is a national event organised by the Women's Environmental Network and the Waste and Resources Action Programme.
