SIXTH formers from Skipton’s Ermysted’s Grammar School are to give Parliamentary candidates a grilling ahead of next month’s General Election.
Five candidates standing for the Skipton and Ripon seat, Julian Smith (Cons); Malcolm Birks (Lab); Jacqueline Bell (Lib Dem); Andrew Brown (Green) and Alan Henderson (UKIP) have agreed to answer questions at the school on Wednesday, April 15.
Following the afternoon session, there will also be an evening event for members of the public to ask questions of the candidates.
The events have been organised by Year 12 students and will be chaired by Nick Meadowcroft-Lunn.
Alan Marsden, the school’s head of sixth form, said both events were fantastic opportunities for the questioners and the candidates.
“The candidates will have the chance to chase up a few more votes, the people of Craven will be able to tell the parties exactly what they think, and the Year 12s organising the events will have a real taste of how our country’s democracy works,” he said.
People wanting to attend the evening event at 7pm are being asked to email the school ahead of time at ermystedsqt@gmail.com.
