SKIPTON luthier Brett Barrett will celebrate his 50th birthday in musical style.

He is organising a Spanish classical guitar concert and, to make it more special, the featured artiste, international guitarist Paco Seco, will use one of Brett’s Spanish guitars.

Brett’s love of the guitar started as a child. He began learning classical guitar aged 13, but a few years later, aged 22, he had a sudden change of direction after he picked up a magazine about bodybuilding.

He was fascinated and he threw himself into his new passion, winning many trophies both at regional, national and European level.

But he didn't abandon the guitar and, years later, after retiring from competitions, he began to perform again and to make guitars.

And one of his customers is guitarist and composer Paco, who will perform at Skipton’s Holy Trinity Church on Saturday at 8pm.

From Malaga, Paco has played at venues across the world, from the National Theatre in London to the beaches of Kerala, India.

In 1994, he won the IV Young Creation Contest at the Lisbon European Biennial show and was later invited to take part in a workshop in Sarajevo to create new music for the Biennale de Giovanni 2000 in Rome.

For three seasons, he worked for Producciones Imperdibles, creating original music for its numerous theatre and dance shows.

His style ranges from baroque to contemporary and his repertoire includes jazz-influenced melodies and world music.

Tickets for the concert cost £10 in advance from 01756 792739 or 01756 794831 or £12 on the door.
