POLICE are appealing for information after a cyclist died yesterday afternoon.

The cyclist was riding with a friend on the B6265 Grassington to Pateley Bridge road when the accident occurred outside Lambs Hill Farm near Greenhow at around 4pm.

The 38-year-old man from Lancashire was travelling from Greenhow down Red Brae Bank towards Pateley Bridge when he lost control of his blue Carrera cycle and collided with a stone wall sustaining fatal injuries. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

His friend was on a separate a red Raleigh cycle.

Police are appealing for witnesses to come forward and in particular they are keen to speak with anyone who remembers speaking to two cyclists at the Toft Gate Barn café who were heading towards Pateley Bridge on Friday afternoon.

In addition, officers want to trace a woman who stopped at the scene to assist. She is believed to have been driving a small blue car.

Both cyclists had high visibility rucksacks with them.

The road was closed until 7.15pm to allow collision investigators to examine the scene.
