A MAN who attempted to commit fraud at a Skipton store twice has been given a community sentence from magistrates.
Nigel Howden, 55, cut the cord of an iron in Boyes Stores on September 27, 2013 and was successfully refunded £79.99.
He returned on July 17 this year, and tried to do the same, but was recognised by shop staff, who alerted police, Skipton magistrates heard on Friday.
Howden, of Holtdale Avenue in Leeds, admitted two charges of fraud at an earlier hearing, and was sentenced to a 12-month community order.
It will include a 15-day rehabilitation requirement and a fine of £70. He will also have to pay criminal courts charge of £180, prosecution costs of £85, a surcharge of £60 and compensation to Boyes of £79.79 for the cost of the iron.
