EVEN Santas turned up for a successful celebration of sport at Skipton's Aireville Park at the weekend.

Running club Skipton AC joined Craven Energy triathlon club, the Parkrun group, Friends of Aireville Park, Skipton Cycling Club, the Rotary Santa Fun Run, Walkers for Health, Airedale Dodgers and Fit for Purpose for the event.

The regular Saturday morning parkrun was well attended and young members of Craven Energy were busy training for the junior triathlon, which also took place the same weekend.

“This was a fantastic event and I’d like to thank everyone for their contribution," said Paul Norman, of Skipton AC, Skipton Cycling Club and Skipton Parkrun.

“All the clubs involved were able to talk to each other about ideas for the future as well as encouraging new members to join up.

“The event showed how much enthusiasm there is for sport in our area and hopefully that will go from strength to strength.”

Cllr Linda Brockbank, Craven District Council's lead member for working with communities, said the council was very proud of Aireville Park.

"It’s a joy to see so many groups involved in sporting activity in Craven. I hope this event helped to inspire many more people to get fit and active.”

And Fiona Protheroe, chairman of Friends of Aireville Park, added: “It was wonderful to see so many people enjoying the park. This was a great opportunity for all the groups that use the park to get together and publicise their activities.

“We have some brilliant sporting groups in Craven and it was great to see so much interest in what they do – hopefully more people will get involved in the future.”
