SKIPTON Town Council has temporarily closed the public toilets in Coach Street car park following complaints of inappropriate use by travellers.
The council, which carried out an £70,000 refurbishment of the toilets, has received complaints that they are being used by travellers who have recently moved onto the car park.
Cllr Robert Heseltine (Ind) said the toilets would remain closed until the travellers were moved off the site.
"We've had several complaints from people and one lady told me she couldn't get in because it was full of people washing their hair," he said.
"We've spent a lot of money refurbishing the toilets, we don't want any vandalism, so I've asked that they are closed until further notice."
Craven District Council, which owns the car park, says its legal team is working to resolve the issue with the travellers.
