EXCAVATIONS will be on the agenda at the annual meeting of the Long Preston Heritage Group on October 15.

Following the formal business, Dr David Johnson will provide an update on the Big Dig Project, including progress so far and preliminary findings.

Nigel Steel, from Dig Ventures, will also talk about the new Heritage Lottery-funded project, Under the Uplands, which aims to provide a greater understanding of cave archaeology.

He will also describe the project's two parts – the excavation of Haggs Brow Cave in Settle and the digitisation of the Victoria Cave archive, both run from Winskill Farm in Langcliffe.

The meeting, in Long Preston Village Hall, will start at 7.30pm. Complimentary wine, beer or fruit juice will be on offer, and there will be an opportunity to talk to speakers after the meeting. Copies of the group's Long Preston and the Great War book will also be on sale.
