FARNHILL Methodist Chapel was full for its final service.

People travelled from far and wide to share in the service, which was conducted by present minister, the Rev Ruth Crompton and previous ministers, the Revs Alan Raine and Ken Beardsley.

The organist, John Taylor, made a CD of organ music as a memento and proceeds from the sales went to the Forget Me Not charity.

For the past eight years, Farnhill members have supported the work of The Gambian Schools Trust and a local member of the charity, Linda Gunn, received a cheque for £200, bringing the grand total to £4,500.

Mrs Crompton said: "Whilst the chapel building may have closed, members will continue to meet twice a month in Farnhill Institute just across the road from the chapel."

They will meet every second Saturday for a coffee morning, the proceeds of which will continue to go to The Gambian Schools Trust, and every Thursday prior to the coffee morning for a new venture called Let's talk about...

It is a discussion group that is open to all and will talk about everyday events and activities in the light of faith. The first meeting will be on November 12 at 2pm.
