GROUND works will begin soon on a controversial new housing estate in Eastburn.

Miller Homes this week announced the start of work on its Airedale Lea development off Main Road.

The award-winning housebuilder will provide almost 150 three and four-bedroom homes and fields next to Airedale Hospital.

Sales manager Sarah Whinfrey said: “We will offer a range of property styles, prices and ways to buy.

“The development is close to schools and local facilities, and Miller Homes will also make investment in the local community in terms of highways, infrastructure, education and open space.”

Miller Homes, established 80 years ago, currently has nine developments across the Yorkshire region.

The company was awarded a five-star rating in the National Home Builders Federation new home customer satisfaction survey.

Bradford Council’s regulatory and appeals committee last November gave permission for 147 homes to be built on the greenfield site despite objections from villagers.

Craven ward councillor Andrew Mallinson has expressed concern about the development’s potential impact on local traffic networks.
