CALENDAR Girl Ros Fawcett and her sister, Ann Horner, had a lovely time judging and tasting the cakes at Embsay's Village Bake-Off.

One hundred residents attend the event, which marked the launch of the community's Good Neighbours Project.

Tracey Crewdson, from Age UK, said: "We hope now for residents to make use of the Good Neighbours project – that is always the hardest bit.

"Many villagers, often elderly, suffer terribly from isolation and loneliness so the work Age UK and Rural Action Yorkshire have been doing aims to try to alleviate the affects of such isolation.

"The subject is high on the government health agenda as loneliness has severe impacts of health (mental health as well as physical) and so any project which attempts to address the issue at a local level is important."
